Panelus Stipticus Mycelia, Radio Frequency Analog videos on three 80´-´88 Roadstar Monitors, Sonic Piece by Augusto Calçada, Ai, 3D animation
In the hybrid art-science-technology research and installation, “Daughters of Ra 88,” I embark on an epistemological journey through the jaw-dropping history of the Radium Girls and the broader implications for women and artists in the Technocene. This hybrid installation features bioluminescent mycelia and a radio frequency triptych composed of three analog video monitors—one in color—accompanied by the evocative sound design of Augusto Calçada. An AI voice model, trained to reconstruct the voice of Marie Curie from her Nobel Prize speech as well as the voices of the Radium Girls, further deepens the narrative. This integration of sound and visuals intertwines past and present, highlighting the persistent struggles and contributions of women in the face of industrial exploitation and scientific advancement.
