Kitchenlab at Interfiction

Kitchenlab @ Interfiction

interfiction XXIII/2016
ZEITMASCHINEN

Kassel, 18. – 20. November 2016
Medienprojektzentrum Offener Kanal im KulturBahnhof

Of course, time travel refers to knowledge. Forgotten or not yet discovered. For a couple of hours Interfiction will turn into a biochemical lab developed by TOP association in order to propose a platform for rediscovering knowledge, and along it, past and future. The lab arrangement of the Interfiction will provide an atmosphere for discourses about the world and society, including cultural heritage and scientific knowledge, fermentation and distillation, humans and other living beings. It will explore possibilities of a societal shift towards understanding and consciousness of the human species as a balanced element of the ecosystem we live by and within. The introduced project aims to gather those interested in working between the studio, the kitchen, and the laboratory, where food culture, experimental lab culture, and artistic and creative practice overlap.

At Interfiction, the audience will be invited to join Kitchenlab experiences with Mindaugas Gapševičius, Penka Mincheva, and Matthias Roth. Mindaugas will conduct the workshop „Mycorrhizal networks or how do I hack plant conversations.“ While examining electronics, plants and fungi, participants will be introduced to information exchange happening between plants. Led by Penka, “Glass making workshop” is comprised of practical and discursive work devoted to the glass making technique. For the last workshop, „Distillation,“ Matthias will get together glass pieces into a distillation set and cook some beverages.

TOP, a Berlin-based association for the promotion of cultural practice, http://www.top-ev.de, has been operating since 2002. Our members develop ideas in the air, often merging politics, economics, and technologies. Crossing many contexts, its members work with art forms that address the humanization of digital technologies through the interplay between the digital, biological, and cultural. The artworks of Mindaugas Gapsevicius question the creativity of machines and do not presume humans to be the only creative force at work. Matthias Roth reflects social madness and the culture of remembrance using photography, video, new media and found footage. Penka Mincheva curates Process – Space Art Festival, which is an annual international festival for contemporary art taking place in Balchik, Bulgaria.
