February 23 – March 1st 2015, Reykjavik, Iceland
The focus of this new Migrating Art Academies laboratory is on exploring the edges of the art world and the creative process. The passion and the driving force behind art will be explored and put in focus rather than the art piece itself. The questions we raise are: Where the progressive art in different forms meet on the edge of the accepted norm, what lives on the borders and how different mediums and art forms connect and become one.
During the Edges we will experiment with powers such as the agents in art, the impulses, the source, the inspirations, the extremes, the edges that art moves to force society to reconsider the current norms of each era, because regardless of media, the artist is always in dialogue with the society around him/her.
Led by Arnar Steinn Friðbjarnarson, Lukka Sigurðardóttir and Sunneva Ása Weisshapel the laboratory will include three public lectures and panels, where the participating artists, students and the public will be invited to participate and collaborate. Contributing artists Erna Ómarsdóttir (dancer/choreographer), Valdimar Jóhannson (musician/sound artist) and Ilmur Stefánsdóttir (artist/ perfomer) will lead interactive panels and discussions, that will take place in the Iceland Academy of the Arts.
Several field trips will be organized in addition to the workshops and progamme at the Algera Studio.
The Migrating Art Academies laboratory in Iceland is organized by Wonderland Films in collaboration with the Icelandic art residency Algera Studio, the Iceland Academy of the Arts and Institutio Media, an organization from Lithuania. Edges is supported by the Nordic Culture Point.
